Also, rest assured that the backing material used is sourced from verified ecologically, economically and socially sustainable forestry operations (PEFC (PEFC/04-31-2357) seal).
Bathroom furniture with a décor finish/melamine resin décor
Duravit uses three-ply chipboard panels with the PEFC (PEFC/04-31-2357) quality seal as the backing material for bathroom furniture with a décor finish. Melamine resin décor, either smooth or textured (wood-surface feel) depending on the variant, is used as the facing material.
Bathroom furniture with décor surface/HPL facing
Duravit uses three-ply chipboard panels with the PEFC (PEFC/04-31-2357) quality seal as the backing material for bathroom furniture with a décor finish. HPL (high pressure laminate), either smooth or textured (wood-surface feel) depending on the variant, is used as the facing material.
Bathroom furniture with real-wood veneer
Duravit uses three-ply chipboard panels with the PEFC (PEFC/04-31-2357) quality seal as the backing material for bathroom furniture with real-wood veneer. Real-wood veneer is used as the facing material. It is pressed on to a melamine backing material and bonded with the backing material using a PUR propolymer adhesive. The surface is then sealed with PU lacquer, making it resistant to moisture.
ABS edges on décor finishes and real-wood veneers
These are not only a perfect color match with the surfaces they are also scratch-resistant, robust, and waterproof.
Bathroom furniture with matt or high-gloss lacquer surfaces
Duravit uses MDF panels with the PEFC (PEFC/04-31-2357) quality seal as the backing material for bathroom furniture with lacquer surfaces. UV-stable lacquers in matt or high gloss are used as facing materials. These are applied in several layers using a spraying technique. The lacquer is additionally saliva and sweat-fast in accordance with DIN 53160.
Glossary
Three-ply chipboard panels
Wood chips are glued and pressed into panel materials of varying strengths under pressure and high temperatures. The edge zones of the cross-section are more strongly compressed than the middle layer. The panels are manufactured from start to finish by our upstream supplier.
MDF panels
Steam is used to break wood chips down into fibers, which then undergo the same manufacturing process as chipboard panels (gluing and pressing under pressure and temperature). The panels are manufactured from start to finish by our upstream supplier.
Melamine resin décor
Printed paper is impregnated with melamine resin, dried, and subsequently bonded with the backing material under pressure and high temperatures.
HPL
HPL stands for “high pressure laminate”, i.e. a laminate produced by pressing multiple layers of paper together with a hardening artificial resin under high pressure.
Real-wood veneer
Real-wood veneers are extremely thin layers of a tree trunk that are applied to a backing panel and considered to be some of the most sophisticated products that can be made from wood.
