At the place where the North Sea meets the Baltic and the play of light across the dunes creates a unique mood, the Color Hotel Skagen has opened up new spaces for relaxation and togetherness. Two new wings with a total of 32 rooms take their inspiration from the landscape and lend the building a clean architectural style. As the largest hotel in the city, it also offers a restaurant with regional cuisine, a wellness area with sauna and outdoor pool, plus a wide range of leisure activities in addition to its state-of-the-art rooms.

The design by Arkitema Architects echoes the shapes and colors of the hotel’s surroundings and couches them within a robust and energy-efficient building style. Dark formwork combined with warm wood accents inform the façades. Large windows bring ample daylight into the interior while also opening up a view of the dune landscape. Balconies with light railings and wooden decks pick up the clean architectural language and also lend the buildings transparency and lightness. This approach continues in the interior: the bathrooms combine serenity with natural materials – with bathroom solutions from Duravit to round off the holistic concept.


Calm tones, clean shapes

Light natural stone tiles in greige and sand tones form the foundation, on top of which warm wooden finishes and white ceramic create a warm balance. Bathtubs and above-counter basins from the Luv range emphasize the Scandinavian character and combine homely warmth with clean forms. Additionally, the wall-mounted toilets and vanity units from the ME by Starck range are a perfect match. The minimalist design creates a light and elegant effect, while the high-quality materials ensure that form and function can withstand the strains of use in a hotel context.


Space to arrive

The clean design concept continues in the rooms, producing an inviting atmosphere. Bright tones, ample daylight, and natural materials reinforce this impression and create a tranquil environment. Large, wooden-framed windows provide a view of the landscape. Upholstered beds, rattan and fabric seating, and well-placed details such as lamps and/or plants blend modernity and mellow comfort in the rooms. The result: places of retreat that combine state-of-the-art comfort with the individual flair of a boutique hotel.
